The world of online communication is a small business marketer’s dream, but can also be a nightmare when comments, conversations, actions and intentions go left instead of right. In the post Best Social Media Etiquette Practices, Mandy Edwards provides a reminder of the little things that matter to community engagement and online reputation. Here are a few basic courtesies that set the tone of a favorable experience for leads, prospects and customers and belong in everyone’s social media book of manners.
- Don’t ignore people. If someone takes the time to respond to something you have out there – a tweet, a Facebook post, acknowledge it.
- Don’t steal. Plagiarism happens every day on the web. There are proper ways to go about reusing published content.
- Act your age. Acting your age and showing your maturity will earn you respect and authority.
- [Don’t post offensive] Content and Language. …there is no place for an owner to respond with that type of language to a post on their business account.
- Don’t assume. There’s a lot of spam out there… check it out before sharing it.
- Spell check!
