Since our last post on the topic, Warner Music Group, Atlantic Records, The New Yorker, W Magazine, Hearst Magazines, Gawker and Fox Searchlight Pictures have all come under fire over unpaid internships. There’s no excuse. Knowledge of the guidelines and best practices is a given and these companies should have known better; for small and medium sized businesses it is a must. If you think internship participants are merely helping hands, then kiss your marketing and corporate reputation gains goodbye. A public and labor relations disaster is headed your way. So pay your interns. Period!
